Clinical Radiology

The university departments of Clinical Radiology and Medical BioPhysics  merged in 1998 to become Imaging Science and Biomedical Engineering .

The university department of Clinical Radiology also coordinates the Manchester Radiology Training Scheme.

The department is situated in the Stopford medical school building. There are four radiographic suites containing:

  • A Philips Medical Systems 1.5 Tesla ACS Gyroscan NT MRI system.
  • Radiographic and screening equipment, which can be used as a research laboratory for biological studies.
  • Scanning units for bone densitometry (2 DXA scanners, Lunar Prodigy and Hologic Acclaim 4500 scanner, SXA, BUA and pQCT).

There is also a mobile Osteoporosis and Clinical reasearch Unit, which houses an Hologic 4500 Aclaim DXA scanner and a Stratec Norland XTC 2000 pQCT scanner in a 6.5 tonnes, 28ft customised truck.
