Company Profile

Visual Automation Limited was established in 1993 to act as the technology transfer arm of the Wolfson Image Analysis Unit. This Unit, based in the division of Imaging Science and Biomedical Engineering in the School of Medicine of the University of Manchester is one of the largest image analysis groups in Europe.

Here, recent research into challenging problems concerning images of biological samples has resulted in new methods for the analysis, classification and modelling of complex shapes and their behaviour. From its close link with the Wolfson Unit, we can call upon these research results to provide clients with advanced image analysis solutions to real problems.

In 1996 Visual Automation set up a separate company, Kestra, to produce specialised printed circuit inspection machines based on the Unit’s advanced shape modelling technology.

Visual Automation now focuses on two areas:

image analysis services for medicine and the life sciences

face analysis technology.

We are able to offer specialised software development and licensing services in these areas. Visual Automation staff will work with you to define and specify your requirements in order to develop flexible and easy to use solutions.

Visual Automation can call upon staff and researchers of the Wolfson Unit for specific technical and scientific support. In addition resources are provided by the University including office, secretarial support, phone/fax, photocopier, library and printing services. Visual Automation also has access to the computing resources including a network of SUNs and PCs, printers, CD jukebox, internet connection and website.
